Inviting elected officials to tour local homeless programs gives them the opportunity to see first hand how federal policy affects real people and programs. This is an excellent way to illustrate the progress your program has made towards ending homelessness in your community. Members of Congress are more likely to take action to strengthen the federal response to homelessness if you can demonstrate your organization’s effective use of federal resources. Your tour should incorporate stories which address the reasons people become homeless and how your organization assists them in ending their homelessness, and an explanation of how federal policy will assist you in expanding your good work in the community.
