National Conference on Ending Family Homelessness 2007

Close to 500 practitioners, advocates, government officials and people experiencing homelessness convened in Oakland, California to explore promising strategies that are reducing homelessness among families.
Nan Roman greeted the participants from the United States as well as Canada and Australia and provided an overview of the lessons learned and the challenges and opportunities that remain.
On Thursday, keynote speaker Doris Koo of Enterprise Community Partners described her background as a
tenant organizer and the organization’s continuing commitment to building affordable housing as well as their efforts to rebuild New Orleans. On Friday, Fred Karnas of the Fannie Mae Foundation hosted an interactive discussion with leaders on homelessness. The panel, comprised of Angela Alioto, Anthony Love, Heather Lyons and Suzanne Wagner discussed building political will, educating the public and the media about homelessness and building effective partnerships across service systems.
